INNKEEPERS, Lorri and Rowland Girling
_Rowland Lea Girling is the third generation of his family to live at Speed the Plough. He grew up here when apple and peach orchards covered
the almost 300 acres. There were square dances on Saturday nights,
and tennis matches on Sunday afternoons, in nice weather.
After pursuing a career in academia in North and South Carolina, Pittsburgh, and Chicago, Rowland returned to the Lynchburg area in 1980, and later started his small computer business in Forest, VA. Originally from CT, Lorri had a career in nursing and pharmaceutical sales. Rowland and Lorri met in Lynchburg and married in 2001. Together they have four grown children and five grandchildren. Since the orchards were passe, the couple began their B&B in the spring of 2008. With always a project going on, their newest addition is a spacious glass Conservatory, ready to be enjoyed as a Reception and Event Center. Rowland and Lorri enjoy entertaining their guests with tours of their property and historic stories that they recall or they have researched. |
